Is it possible to sweep in revit based on an imported 3d design string from autocad?

@Gerald.Lockardhello, yes you can use sweep or extrusion. It's better to use family (rfa) to create your design, you can load and edit family for any changes. thanks

c3d corridor creation would be a better idea. After that, try using DWG solids in Revit

Thanks for the reply. I have tried this but as you can see in the attached screenshot, when I sweep and select the imported acad line revit appears it move it onto a plane.

It isn't picking up all the 3d geometry from the line.

 

Any ideas? Thanks

Or as alternative, Try to Autodesk workflow. Use Inventors parametric engine to model bridge paets in combination with Infraworks (for alignments) After that, export it as IFC to Revit , and the detailling would be done in AutoCAD if i'm correct. Good luck on your journwy..

I have created 3d sweeps in acad in the past, but would like to do it in revit if possible.

 

I have the 3d strings for the sweeps, and the 2d cad profiles.

I can import 3d acad sweeps into revit and export to navis- but it's a bit messy having a mix of informatiojn for materials, mass, bim info etc

Stick to DWG and LEARN to model 3d. You might as well look at the abilities in ACA in combination with C3D.
Conversions.., well,.. They more or less s bigtime. 😉

I have tried that but unfortunately it doesn't use the line, it looks like just projects one when i select it?

@Gerald.Lockard hello, your autocad file Z has a value you need to flatten and change Z value to 0, not sure if my interpretation is correct? please see attached. thanks

@ennujozlagam  I think the point is that he needs to maintain the Z value of the imported line, not flattening it.

 

@Gerald.Lockard  We would have thought it should be easier to re-use or trace 3d cad lines/plines/splines in Revit.  Unfortunately they most likely need to be rebuilt.  See screencast:

I have been able to use the method you described to create a swept profile for the bridge barrier in 3d in revit, i'll test it to see if it works along longer more complex sweeps.

In this job we are working with imported 3d genio design strings, not an infraworks or c3d model.

the supposed workflow is this..

 

1. road and bridge design can be done using Infraworks 
2. import in AutoCAD Civil 3D for further detailing of the ROAD design. 
3. datareused in Revit by means of DYNAMO to get the detailed (!!??) bridge design.
4. rebar detailing and design documentation are further processed in Revit

 

Problem is , it is a 'one way' workflow.

what if it turns out some 'detail' of a bridge (eg construction height or pilar geometry) has an effect on the alignments that has to be 'tweaket'

..what do you do now ? Start all over at 1.? I don't think it is that realistic. You?
