Method for creating model lines for both render and sheets

Hi,

I would like to ask to see if someone has an idea for what I want to achieve...

basically, we have a lot of decorative sweeps in our model. We need to panelize these sweeps and dim the setting out on sheets. At the same time, we will produce enscapes from the same model.

So what I'm hoping to achieve is an element that can both appear in an enscape render - such as a void cutting the sweep - and something that can be accurately dimmed on a sheet, such as a model line. I created a face-based generic family with a void, set to "Cut voids when loaded", and placed it where I wanted to indicate panel breaks. While I can snap to the centerline of this family while I'm inside the Model-in-place, once I click finish the model that snapping functionality disappears and I can only dim the edges of the void, not the center.

Anyone got any good ideas for how to go about this?

When you edit the in place model,  ads ref planes so that you can place dims later on.  It is no different than external families.
