Mesh component not allowing materiality

I am using BluDot's Revit files for a school project. All of their revit files are mesh geometries made in a different program. Is there anyway to convert them into a real revit family to where I can add materials to them and not see all of the mesh lines when rendering and creating images?

Check and see if the mesh has layer information. If it has layer information, you can assign each layer with material.

I just checked all of the layers and changed materials from a generic material. They are still rendering as "dumb objects" and are grey. Any other suggestions

Mesh Geometry doesn't necessarily mean it has surfaces or materials.  If the source has both, then maybe your Visual Style is set to Wireframe.

If you to post your file, we can better advise you.  If you can't post the file, then we need more information -- most importantly, the file format you are bringing into Revit.
