materials tool

in the 2015 revit program the materials tool wont work. for example the materials dialogue box wont pop up on my work screen to change materials. and I remembered when I downloaded the software it said i would need to download another program to render? Does this have any significance?

What version of Revit did you install? If Revit LT it does not do rendering internally, you can render in the cloud (via Autodesk). That shouldn't disable access to materials however. When you installed Revit did you choose to not install any material related options?
