Materials are broken. This is driving me crazy.

There are some materials in my broject heavily bugged.

For example i have a "Glass" material that cannot be deleted / renamed.

Why is this happening? I had this problem in every Revit version i used.

The strangest part is that with pyRevit plugin i can actually delete the material, but pyRevit doesn't have an option to chose which materials to delete so it will wipe all of them.

Are you sure it's not the Asset you are trying to delete?

...try Purging the Material.

I can confirm it's the material, this specific material cannot even be assigned to an element (when i try to assign the material, another material gets assigned to it)

Wicked cool. New phenom to me. Can you post screenshot of Error message? Also, did you say you were manipulating materials with a 3rd party plug-in?

material use and unuse.JPGmaterial use and unuse.JPGhi

Hi

Check in materials " Show in Use " if the material is shown here it means its used somewhere..

wall, window, any 3d model possible.. ( that's the job for you to find )..

Check in materials " Show unused "

these material you would  be able to purge...

well now...

If you are using a template.. created by any BIM manager, then take their advice..

cause files, materials can be locked when using CITRIX systems, and the user have no control over it..

( this is not that common , only companies which customises their system, remote logins, floating licences etc plays roles in this )

easy way out it try to override material with some new, if that's not possible then just create new material and move on...

cheers!

I'm a student, i didn't use any fancy template.

The problem is that sh*t happen too often with materials, as you can see from the video it's like the material doesn't even exist exist:

- cannot be deleted

- cannot be renamed

- cannot be assigned

- if you look closely to the material window's title bar, each time i select a material the title changes according to the material, when i select "Vetro" the title bar keeps the last selected material name

What's going on?

PS: i can delete materials used by any object, so even if it were used somewhere i should be able to delete it and the object will revert to "by category"

What happens if you close Revit and restart?

...is this a permissions issue?

Now i've deleted EVERYTHING from my project, purging everything several times and still cannot delete those materials (another one happens to have the problem)

Check my rvt attached

I opened your project and it deletes for me. So it's not the project. Maybe related to your Material Library. You sure it isn't a permissions issue?

1) My Autodesk Material Library is not read only, so this should not be the issue

2) I even tried running revit as admin with no differences

I would submit it to Autodesk.

I'm eager to know what's going on. Let us know.

Hi

If you know someone personally who is an expert in revit then try "teamviewer" or any screen sharing ,

and get the help...

sometimes theres more than what one estimate..

Cheers!

I may have figured out something, in one computer i reinstalled Revit changing language to English, I can now delete those problematic materials (They actually even changed name according to the language, Vetro became Glass and Plastica became Plastic).

So it looks like a localization problem that breaks things

Reinstalled italian version on the first computer and i'm unable to edit those materials there

It's 100% a localization problem
