Material in keynote not populating legend

Hello,

I recently converted a Revit file from 2021 to 2023 and my keynotes text for materials (not elements) all disappeared from my keynote schedules (legend).

Additionally, before I noticed the schedule/legend was missing all material keynote text, Revit gave other materials the same keynote number and all are on the same sheet.  I hope I am missing something simple, but am beyond frustrated trying to solve this.

When I open an old version of the project in 2021, the keynotes are just fine but I've made many hours of edit in 2023 and cannot go back.

This is not project specific (could be template specific though?) as I made a new project, I created two walls, both have the material keynotes set for the exterior finish (siding) but use different material. I tagged the one on the left using the material tag and it give a blank material description. I set the wall element keynote to the material keynote, I then tagged the one on the right as an element, while it gives the description I want, it is not correct, how do I get the material descriptions back on my schedules as I had in previous Revit versions? This same issue occurs on floor plan views.

There are a few images:

1. Material example, Wall with shingle material and a material keynote used. Keynote schedule (legend) blank line.

2. Element example, wall with lap siding material and element (for entire) wall used. Keynoter displays the description but is not the way it I need the keynotes to work.

3. Material keynote with keynote text turned on.

The schedule/legend is filtered by sheet.

I updated Revit to 2023.1.2, made no difference.

Any help, no matter it much may embarrass me for something obvious is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for reading.

I stumbled upon a solution, I almost always turn the leader off when keynoting elevations, when I tagged a material with the leader checked on (the default position), it populated the tag and schedule properly. Hooray, but I'm severely annoyed and cannot reclaim my lost time.  When I delete the leader, the tag and schedule remain populated correctly - double hooray - but very inefficient.

Revit has a material keynote tag bug.

So now I'll just have to keynote everything with the "leader" checked on as is default, and remove the leaders where needed after.

Thank you for looking.
