Making non-material tag families that reference Material parameters

At my firm, we've developed a custom room tag family that references several dummy material parameters (for wall, floor, ceiling, and base) to allow us to schedule and display room finishes in both schedules and tags. Currently, our tag only shows the Material Name from each of these parameters. Previously, this worked fine because we named each material identically to its Material Tag. However, we're now in the process of upgrading our material library with a more structured naming convention, which decouples the Material Name from the Material Tag. This means we can no longer rely on the name alone.

What we'd like to do now is have the room tag display the Material Tag (or potentially Description, Comments, etc.) instead of the Material Name.

Is there any way to reference material parameter data (such as Tag, Description, Comments) from a material applied to a Material-type parameter within a non-material family like a Room Tag? Or is this kind of nested material property referencing not currently supported in Revit tags?
