Make a surface polygonal

So, I have  created a mass in a project, and have divided it with an hexagonal pattern, then attached a hexagonal family on its surface, like this

The family obviously is flat, but attaching it to a curved surface, it becomes curved as well. As per my statics professor's request, the single hexagons should be flat though, to make it more similar to a geodesic dome - I know it's not orthodox. How do I make it? Note: The mass was modeled and its surface divided directly in the project, not as an additional conceptual mass family.

The panels produced by a pattern-based panels are not curved, unless you intentionally design some curvature in the family. Otherwise, a group of panels covers a group area in straight segments, following the number of divisions of the divided surface. The more divisions you have, the more curve the result appears to be, in the same way that a regular polygon seems more like a circle as the number of sides in the polygon increases.
