low windows do not show up

Now being a dedicated ACAD user and starting to add Revit LT to the mix means I am getting pretty frustrated with complex problems which seem to result out of simple issues. like trying to work out how to get windows to show up under the cut plane. I have used this example attached as its not really a visibility thing or a setting issues as I have used a new default project and shown low walls up to the cut plane and they all show.

BUT, no matter what I do, what tutorial I watch or what measurements I put into Veiw Range that little window will never show up on the ground floor plan (or whatever level its in).; they are clearly on the 3d view.

I have seen complex attempts to explain this which normally end up getting me to a tab or drop down menu that does not exist. I do not need a machine level programming answer, surely this is simple and easy.

surely this is a simple problem as its one of the most basic needs of revit, why this has to be so complicated I will never understand.

please help. (oh and I requested a phone contact but they never called me)

Darren

It will show similar to other windows only if the view range cut Plane is passing through it.

Sometimes I make a plan region at the window with a different view range where the cutting plane pass through the window. Check below.

FWIW:  Window & door families are not cut based on the cut plane defined in project views. Instead they are cut based on the cut plane defined in the family's plan view.

@barthbradley This section/cut height doesn't cut the low window, so I would think this is exactly as expected for the plan view... The link you posted is for door/window representation when cut, isnt it?(just glanced over it, could be wrong)

@wisedrawing How did you want (and expect) the low window to show in your plans? (Or the high window with lower cut plane...)

eng.mostafa = Genius

that was exactly what I am looking for, it totally worked 100% did not affect my general cut plane for the project and even exported to ACAD showing the windows on the plan.

this is actually very hard to find, there is a lot of threads about over the cut line and they seem to go into deep complicated details; this is simple and obviously as the program was designed

Thanks heaps, pretty happy about it 🙂

barthbradley I just can't quite work out the reference plane at this point, I did find these threads and I was at sea, reference planes are not working for me, I either don't understand what they are, or can't find them?? that slide you linked is not clear and I cannot read the tree listed

happy to see some simple instructions, I can't actually find this 'reference'

cheers

I’m not following you, @wisedrawing. The article I linked you to, made no mention of Reference Planes and nor are Reference Planes related to your issue. But then, nor should Plan Regions be related either - based on what you told us. So, I’m surprised that the Plan Region suggestion resolved your issue. I don’t understand how that would be since you  stated that "no matter what measurements I put into View Range that little window will never show up."

For future reference, here’s a list of 33 likely reasons you cannot see something in the view. Make a hardcopy and keep it handy.

Is this a standard to show windows below cut plane and a move cut plane? I think that can fool people to think all the window are same level

My point exactly. You could use plan region, but you should really make it clear from the drawing it is at a different cut height or placement height one way or another...

...and I agree with Barthbradley that your question implies another issue. Glad you found a solution that seems to work for you though.

It is for sure not a standard...maybe their internal practice they do it that way for some reason, so it is good he found a solution...

Nonetheless, I do agree with you, showing openings below and above the way shown above can be misleading no mater how you annotate it. The only place I have seen this is actually on this is on forums like this one but never in RL practice over the past 20 years...my personal preference is to show hidden element as hidden (different pattern/style) similar to the below

Your posted photo shows Revit is doing nothing wrong. The low window is outside of the cut plane and therefore is not showing. I mean above that low window you have a wall, and Revit is showing that - why would you want it to show the window instead?! The suggested default cut plane height works for MOST plan views but not all. You need to lower the cut plane height to intersect with that window or draw view-specific plan region object with a lower the cut plane for that window.

BTW, view range behaves differently according to category.
