Lost project browser

When opening revit architecture 2011 the project browser window and the properties panel covered the whole page. Trying to resize them, the project browser were suddenly lost and I can' find it anywhere. Also tried reinstalling the product. Hope someone can help me since it's quite hard to work without the project browser.

Matt let me try to understand you on this-

1. "NNTP access through a newsreader is very fast"

i click on a link to the autodesk revit discussion
and i'm there instantly- how much faster could
that be?

2. "I can tell it to get all of the
new posts, even ones with attachments."

we can get all the posts by date or by
member or by word search..

3. "It's MUCH more powerful."

the autodesk forum interface is more
powerful than a Mac truck..

4. "particularly in how I can filter
posts."

we don't want to filter out anyone- we
think that is for children.. if we don't
want to read what another member
has to say- we just don't read them..
we are professionals..

5. "navigate to the different groups."

if you want to go over to the AutoCAD
discussion- you just keep that link in
your favorites or go to the index..

6. "I can tell it to get all posts
under a certain size."

why would you not want to read someone's
post because it was a certain size? that
makes no sense..

7. "retrieve the posts with large attachments."

lol- that also makes no sense.. no attachment
is over 1.5 meg..

8. "all new headers across the board in one
fell swoop."

just save a link to the autodesk discussion
groups index..

9. "discussion group tree using keyboard shortcuts."

that's a great idea- everybody could have
a keyboard shortcut to vector2..

No, that's not the point. Loading an application or web browser is a wash in
terms of speed. It's how you access the groups and manage them on a daily basis
which is faster.

>2. "I can tell it to get all of the

But you have to enter a search paramater. Each time you wish to filter by that
date or member name. And that's the ONLY search you can do. Then you need to let
some far-off server proces that request, then spit out a reformed web page for
you. The next time you launch the browser/forum you have to do that all over
again. It's not persistent.

Not a win.

With a newsreader, you choose to download the latest header information and
optionally the message bodies in one shot for any of the groups to which you are
subscribed. Then you have everything local, and can set up any number of
one-click on-demand filters, or set up group filters, or set up global filters,
or a combination.

As made by Playskool, possibly. Compared to a newsreader, no.

Most professionals I know understand the word "filter."

It's not for blocking someone (although that is one use). Filters arrange posts
based on some property, such as, say, threads which I responded to get a "mark
for retrieval" action assigned so they always are downloaded, so I can easily
see where I posted without getting every header.

Using a newsreader all of your groups are in the same interface and there's no
jumping around additional browser pages necessary. It's also IMMEDIATE, so I
don't have to wait for a different forum to display.

Because I'd rather not spend the time downloading the post where some numskull
attaches a 3MB bitmap file.

Surprise, meet Vector2. V2, this is Surprise.

As I said, if you don't know what NNTP access brings, you don't know what you
are missing, so any confusion on your part is excusable.

However, if you don't know what you are talking about, it's rather idiotic to
criticize those who do, no?

Matt- maybe you can "hack" the
autodesk discussion forum interface
with a "debug" file..

then you can go on using the old
news reader interface..

but don't count on any support
from autodesk..

Matt-

when they delete comments or whole threads
here- do they get deleted from the news readers?

Scott-

i just don't want all my comments to show
up permanently somewhere else- because
if i wanted them to do that i would post
them on my web site for all to see..

i do have complaints about autodesk but
i don't want to throw the baby out with
the dirty bath water either..

Hey,

I have the same problem with my Project Browser - it turns black and before it was covering whole view...Generally from description I know that it's the same thing. I also tried to reinstal Revit as well as to mark and unmark the check box with 'Project Browser' in User Interface. I also tried finding the lost Project Browser on external monitor but unfortunately it did not help. So I reported a problem and I also got a message with a link and instructions of how to reset the Project Browser.

The problem is that I am not such a great computer guy and I have no clue how to reset my Project Browser and rename the registry key in Windows Registry editor. Besides that, the script given by Autodesk on the following site:

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=14880949&linkID=9243099

does not save/open as a reg file, but normal txt file. Is that normal?

I have still no clue how to fix my Project Browser.

Could anyone of you explain me more in steps what exactly I should do, how to rename the right file and into what?

Thank you in advance.

I fixed it !

Here, one user posted a print screen, which made me completely understand how to do it.

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Autodesk-Revit-Architecture/Properties-and-Project-Browser-fullscreen-...

Now I think that it just couldn't be easier...

I was simply afraid of deleting the file from the Windows Registry Editor, so I wanted to rename it...

Well, now the problem is solved and my Project Browser is back ! 🙂
