linked model of non-standard-discipline

Just starting a new project and the client has an Interior Designer (equipment layout) which uses revit.  We want to link their model into ours but their work is none of the standard disciplines.  the only choice would be to have them place their components on a workset called ID or whatever and when their model is linked, show only the workset ID under the V/G Overrides RVT Links / ID model set to Custom under Display Settings / set everything to custom and the last tab Worksets, only show their ID workset?

is that one way to show or what would be the common practice for something like this?

in our office we keep it pretty simple. the Interiors group is technically grouped under Architecture but they have there own model. so we i have set up zLINK worksets for each discipline (zLINK - Int, zLINK - Arch, etc....). the "z" just makes it sort to the bottom of the list :-).  when linking the Interiors in, I set the zLINK-Int workset active and link the model in. i can then use my View Templates to manage the visibility as needed.

basically, your office uses the same thing as I described above except for the naming of the worksets.  so your Interiors will add their components under zLINK-Int workset

by Comments, are your referring to the drawing/sheet notes? they put any notes on there own sheets and views in the Interiors model. each discipline manages there own content in there own models. there are some cases where Arch and Int share some content (typically Casework). in cases like that there will be a common view(s)/sheets(s), usually in the Arch model, that interiors can open and edit as needed.

You only wants to show theirs? You place the link on their own defined workset, then set the other/your worksets not to show...? That's what you mean?

if i understand your question write, u need to collect their Interior design elements in Workset and called it Element ID to show or hide it when ever u need, that's right so u can select all ID elements and but them on one workset in their file and link it to your model and from Manage Link You can control to appear this workset and not, this is the optimum solution to save your performance for your model also.

So, by "Interior" are you referring to furniture and finishes or are you referring to the walls, floors, doors, etc? i was thinking you were referring to furniture and finishes.  if so, that brings up other questions :-).

I don't understand the question at all. Why would you need another discipline or modify their model with worksets? I would think that if that were the case, controlling the visibility of their elements would be just as easy as controlling the visibility of elements in other links. That is unless you are using By Linked View.

Shouldn't ID be linking in other trades and only have the content that they are responsible for in their model? 

Please explain exactly what you are trying to control. I don't see that stated anywhere.
