Linked Model Color Override

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have an MEP model linked into my file. This is what I have done:

  • Template Set
  • In template Revit Links override so that all lines are set to black
  • In template Filter created for system classification to turn all lines black

Everything turns black except electrical fixtures and data devices. I then created another filter, selected all categories and set the rule to be workset (I have my linked model on its own workset). That still didn't work.

What am I missing to make these elements change color?

Thanks!

The symbolic representation is some of the electrical fixtures and devices are actually generic annotations nested into the family...perhaps try changing those to black?

yes. except that i have all annotations turned off. and i have a filter that has selected everything in the linked model. but i just tried to troubleshoot a bit, and i unchecked the categories but they are still visible even after applied. so they say "Electrical Fixtures (1)" but when I uncheck electrical fixtures in the Revit link, it doesn't turn off...

If you want to make overrides in the Linked File , then you can do it so:

  • in Project File >VGO > Edit > Revit Links > click on Display Settings and choose Custom
  • click on Custom > Model Category (and Annotation Category) > choose Custom - the Linked file can be override

honestly, I think you might have missed the VG override. Everyone's help here seems to cover all the possible solutions. Has your troubleshooting included trying all this in a fresh project?

honestly, i have done this in several different projects, and had success. but no, i have not taken this exact model and tried it in a new project. i can try that. i did notice that i was able to turn them off entirely through the nested link but not the parent link. if i create a filter that is for the entire project (architectural, MEP, etc.) i can get the lines to change colour. i've tried opening the consultant file and overriding there, and it isn't working for me. my filter is by workset, could it be missing the elements since in the parent model they aren't on the same workset? rather it's just the workset the link is on.

thanks.

it's curious, for sure. I'd have to test. But, could you try it in fresh project first? Forgot all the templates and filters - just see if you can globally change the display in a view using "Imported Categories" overrides.

WAIT A MINUTE! Are you syncing with central? Pardon me if this sounds like a silly question.

Ha...  Do not turn off the [Show annotation categories in this view] box.  Click [All] button at the bottom left of the window to highlight all the categories and click on one box next to any category to turn them all off.  Then, turn the only Generic Annotation category back on.  Override its color or the subcategory's color to black, depend on how they create the symbol.

Create a View Filter based on "System Classification" - "is greater than" - and leave it blank.
