Link Drafting Views between projects

As the title suggests, I'm looking for a way to link multiple drafting views from one project to another. I already know about "insert view from file" and this is not the solution I'm looking for, as it only imports "dumb" lines. What I need is a live link of a drafting view. For example, if I had one project file that acts as my detail library, I could then link views to other projects, and when the original view in the library changes, so too would the views update in all the other projects.

If there's an add-on available that you know of, that would work too.

Thanks

Create drafting views as plan views then you can link the file and set the link to display as linked view.

Hi @j_smith_TCF

I just wanted to follow up here, any progress on this issue? Did the recommendation by @ToanDN help with your issue?

Thanks. That would work, but it's not quite the sleek solution I was hoping for. I'm going to do some more experimenting, and I'll bump the thread if I have more questions.

Also, I'm supporting this idea because it would do what I want:

Ideate has a little known tool that they are considering mainstreaming that you can ask for them to update to 2019-2022 that updated (clones) sheets from drafting views. I.e. Drafting project has details in it and that gets distributed to other projects as clones.

There is a solution to this, but requires considerable setup.

  1. Create a Revit file where your details will live. All details should be drawn in a section view. Name each section the detail name.
  2. Link this model into your Live Revit model.
  3. In your model file create a level either above or below the model extents to place section views on.
  4. Create a plan view from the new level.
  5. Cut sections on the blank plan view and organize them in a way that you can keep track of what detail is what.
  6. Drag the sections onto your detail sheet.
  7. In each section view you create, through visibility graphics, choose a linked view from the detail model to correspond with the section.
  8. On your plan use a Reference other view callout to see the detail.

Could also use a "Preconstruction" or "Recon-Details" phase as well if going this route. Honestly we just need a way to centrally manage the snapshots - kind of like shared views- publish to ACC and then consume to link in...
