Linework tool grips not showing

I am learning to do section detailing, I just watched a tutorial about the linework tool and it demonstrated selecting a line to modify and using the grips to adjust how much of that line you want to alter. Well I'm using the linework tool but getting no grips to make any adjustments.

I found this forum post

of someone having the same problem, they eventually realized that "If the active Workset is not visible in the view, the linework tool will not display the grips". 

I dont know if that is actually my problem, but I dont know what that means in order to verify either...

Are we talking the Linework (LW) tool on the Modify Tab? The Linework tool has no capability like you are describing.

So those blue dots don't display when you use the tool?  

What version of Revit are you on?

Press Linework tool again, pick a Linestyle in the drop-down menu and select the line to override again. No dots?  

If not, I have no clue what's going on.

Revit 2022 on windows 11. No Dots. While in the linework tool, I select the line and it just changes and becomes unselected again, theres not even  a moment where the line is still highlighted like in his video

Grips for Linework only works on Elevation views or on Underlay elements of plan views.

What "grips" are you talking about?  Those blue dots? Those appear in every view where LW is used.

I am in a section view, and If that's true then that is a completely stupid function since I feel like MOST details are sections.

Post your RVT. Maybe it's a local issue.

I can confirm it behaves differently in 2022 .  No dots in Plan View - only Elevations.  I understand what @ToanDN meant now. Still, that doesn't explain why you have no blue dots in Elevation.  Strange.  

Actually, I take that back.  I have blue dots in 2022 Plan View.

I find that sometimes I do get the blue dots to change the alter length but not always. I don't know what the reasoning is behind sometimes yes and sometimes no. 

A few times I have used that tool and had to do a separate line over top for the portion that I wanted to stay as is. 

Stupid work around but sometimes faster than other solutions.

You don't have linework grips on Cut Lines, only Projection Lines, Underlay Lines, Beyond Lines.

Another limitation I just noticed is that those elusive grips don't appear in perspective views. (That and dashed lines can't be drawn in perspective view for some reason? ..But I digress).

Perspective views definitely feel the hurt as far as lines go as the "z depth" gets totally thrown out of the window and only model lines will do. Looks pretty odd at times such as the attached:

It's definitely a shame as these views are great vehicles of communicating ideas with clients who don't see the world as orthographically as we do. Hopefully Revit will continue to improve it's graphical toolset (the new "dark mode" UI was a much-appreciated start!).
