Legend tagging

I just want to check that I am not missing something.

It appears that if I do a window or door legend I cannot simply tag them in the legend, but I can in the floor plan / elevations etc.

Would this not be the simple answer to automatic legend work in the case of a variation and having to change 50 odd doors and windows?

I can put a material tag in the legend but not a Tag by Category, yes?

Surely I have missed something and I have this wrong? That would make such a legend on a property with hundreds of doors / windows, and potentially several variations during design unnecessary work. I have added this to what seems like an ongoing thread for requesting such a function, but I still cant believe something so simple is overlooked and its more likely to be my lack of understanding

currently I just do it as a schedule of doors and window but a legend seems the way forward for more detail - without being able to tag the legend and then use the schedule to reference there seems no point

yes in the floor plan

No in the legend? does not register, there seems no way of matching my 23 on the legend below?

Legend is pretty much hit and miss. If I want to create live door or window legend, I would create a host wall and have all the door & window used in the project host to the wall. Then place elevation tag to capture the door and window elevation and create plan view for the door & window symbol. This gives you more flexibility to tag.

Nice work around thanks @syman2000, seems the best idea so far, I thought about manipulating a material tag with some rogue insert but so much work and time and risk.

------

In the mean time if Revit team could respond to this somehow that would be appreciated. Work arounds in a big project with lots of doors and windows with revision after revision is extended extra time and potential mistakes

it does not seem like a massive jump to go from a function with a working material tag to add a function of Tag by Category?

OMG please add this ASAP.  My firm recently has been doing elevations view so we can tag them.  Previously we used legends for doors and windows but the "tags" were just dummy text surrounded by line work to make an appropriately similarly shaped window and door tags on the floor plan.
