Learning Revit - Can you recommend a workflow for lighting design?

I am continuing to learn Revit, but one thing that I haven't been able to get a handle on is a practical workflow for lighting design. I have considered exporting an IFC file and designing the lighting in Dialux Evo but I am concerned that if I design like that that I will be able to get it out of Revit but I am not quite sure how I will seamlessly get it back in 🤔.

I plan to eventually render in TwinMotion but if I design in Revit -> lighting in Dialux Evo -> render in Twin Motion, there is going to be a lot of finger-crossing when it comes to compatibility.

Can anyone suggest a better workflow?

I would start with asking in the MEP forum. Some of the answers from architectural types might lead to confusion.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

You can check out some of the past Autodesk University video on these subject.

Twinmotion, Lumion and Enscape are just for presentation rendering piece and won't give you accurate lighting unless those light contain IES data. You can check out Autodesk Insight product to see if this is what you are looking for.

I have seen offices using Elumtools for lighting calculations in Revit. I am no expert on that, but I understand that it helps to find the required lumens for a space. It works inside Revit, so that is an advantage. For rendering, you may want to try Enscape, that works inside Revit as well.

elumtools is THE tool for Lighting design in Revit. Excellent software and more than excellent support.

I've used it for years and it has all the features I could ever dream of. And with it being a Revit plugin, there is no efficiency lost moving data forth and back.

You also easily can implement the code compliance (egress, power density, lighting levels) plans and schedules.

Revit Version: R2026.2
Hardware: i9 14900K, 64GB, Nvidia RTX 2000 Ada 16GB
Add-ins: ElumTools; Ripple-HVAC; ElectroBIM; Qbitec

Yes, I was interested in their ability to visualize the lighting accurately so IES data would be a must.
