Leader Line Positioned Inside Geometry

How is it possible for the OOTB weld symbol to host a leader line to the centroid of the circle? I understand you can use invisible lines to create the origin point that you'd like, but in playing with this, the origin always originates to the outer edge of any geometry, never inside.

In order to better understand how this family works, I went through the tutorial on it (http://revitclinic.typepad.com/my_weblog/2010/06/adjusting-the-scale-of-a-weld-symbol.html) but my leader still hosted to the outside of the circle.

I'm getting closer.  I was able to modify the OOTB weld symbol, reduce the scale of the symbols and the text successfully.  However, it looks like something broke regarding the origin of the leader.  It's now inset slightly.

Any ideas on what governs the leader origin? And how to shift it back towards the center?

I've attached the weld symbol, I'm working in Revit 2017.
