How do I create the .txt file for keynote linking FROM SCRATCH?

I created one for the company that I work for starting from the default keynote file that comes with Revit.  It's much easier to edit if you open the document in Excel.  I opened the default keynote file in excel and used the same formatting, then saved the file as a text file and it worked great.
