Item code

Hi,

I have a sort of general question about item codes, something that is rather elusive to me;

I have inherited a set of windows and window tags. The tag reads from the "tem code" field and comes up blank when I tag the window. I have tried to find where this item code is located and cannot find it. I know I can change it to read from keynote or type mark but I just want to know where this item code parameter is reading from. I asked google but no specific answer. Is the item code some sort of coding code and not available to edit? In that case, why would the window tag be reading from that parameter instead of Type mark or similar.

Cheers!

It reads from a shared parameter. You can open the tag family, open type editor, edit the parameter and choose export. Note the location, open the window family and add the shared parameter you just exported in.

Thanks @ToanDN, you're a legend! 🙂 One more question though....the project has the item code parameter, I thought that it could be automatically applied to the window, is that not the case? Do I have to go into every window family and ass in the item code parameter?

Cheers!

Thank you @ToanDN, you're a legend! Quick question though: the item parameter is in the project parameters already and I thought that it would automatically be applied to all items in the project, like windows, is that not the case? Do I have to add the shared Item code parameter to all window families?

Cheers!

No. Actually I am revising my suggestion. Don't add the exported parameter to the window families. Remove the one in project and add the exported one above to project, assign to windows category. That should work.

This might seem like a silly question, but how do I export the item code parameter from the tag family?

Cheers!
