Using Revit 2019

Hello, I have been fooling around for hours with these basic handrails and can't get them designed the way I need them. I have attached screen captures of what I am trying to produce as an example and a screen capture what I have accomplished. I was wondering if anyone knows if these specific handrails are even possible to create in Revit?

Thank you!

What I am able to do:

  • Create the three horizontal railings at the desired spacing
  • Create a left side extension and a right side termination at the post

What I am not able to do:

  • Add a radius to the top rail and last post
  • Add a kick plate
  • End the extension loop in line the bottom rail

1 and 3. Best way to tackle this is to design a dedicated endpost which has the curved termination in it. You can, if you don't have too much of the same railing adjust the top rail by tabbing into it and change it's profile.

2. Add it as an extra railing profile, if you really want it to extend further than the post, model it as an handrail which accepts an extension.

As for the Top Rail, all you have to do is go to Section  View, select the Top Rail, Pick Edit Path and then drag the return down to where you need it.

Thank you, that did the trick for the loop. Do you know anything about creating a kick plate?

See if the railing .rvt attached will help.

I just figured out how to do the kick plate. You have to had a railing profile (1/4"x4") and add that to the Railing Structure at the desired height and location.

Yes--that is correct.

Please accept solution if that worked for you.

Did you open the .rvt file I posted?

Yes. Your setting are totally different than mine, so it's hard to tell what is controlling that end condition. Are my settings incorrect?

If you open the .rvt file I posted:

-Note there are (2) Railing Types for this situation. (I could not get a single Railing to work.

One is the top portion with vertical posts, top rail and radiused ends.

-For the Top Rail Type, I do not have "gooseneck" transition, it's set to None.

Second is the intermediate horizontal rail and the kickplate below.

-Other than that your settings look OK.

Good Morning, @advandes. Is this thread resolved?  I see a solution credit but no solution.

I know, isn't that strange? I didn't accept any solution yet, but I did receive a note that a solution was accepted. I am still looking for a specific answer to resolving the radius end top rail with the end post. Nobody seems to have the specific answer to this... Mind boggling!

You mean like I did in my screenshot? You don't know how to make the Top Rail do what I am showing?

...Ah! You mean the opposite side! I see. Edit Path of Top Rail again. It can be defined differently at both ends.  I'll post some screenshots in a moment.

No mystery--The railing I posted works.

Not exactly set up like the OP's, but I have used this setup on many projects.

So I accepted as solution. If the OP does not want to use the (2) railing arrangement and try to solve it with a single railing, then it could take more study. I could not solve it with a single railing approach.

Perhaps I jumped the gun a bit, just a busy morning! 🙂

You mean you can't do what I showed in my screenshot from yesterday?

I am almost there... LOL, just a few more days and I may have this modeled... 12 more unique railing section to go. I am hoping that once this one is complete I can create additional types with various settings...See attached.

All the help by everyone is appreciated!

I did not try it as I already have a working solution.

But hey if you have it working, that is great.

Did you post a .rvt file?

I have attached the railing in a separate Revit file if anyone wants to take a look...
