importing CAD structural drawings

Hi All, hope you can help, i have CAD structural drawings and would like to import into my revit model as i want to show structural beams and columns in 3D to make sure it all works. i have not imported into a model before, is there any way to use this considering CAD is 2D or am i better off just drawing the columns and beams in at correct heights (allot of work), thanks in advance

Hi

1. If you have all the Structural CAD drawings in PLAN, ELEVATION , SECTIONS then first thing you

can link the CAD and show all of them in corresponding drawings in Revit.

Linking CAD file will ensure if theres an update on structural drawings, you just have to reload Structural CAD

to update the drawings..

2. Second option is to Model each and every element, this will give you correct drawings in all plans, elevations, 

section ( any section for that matter ), but this is your call whether to spend time modelling them..if time permits

then you may model it..

Thanks Ganesh, yes i will model the structural components in, takes allot of time but will be more useful. Possibly if the CAD was 3D it may be imported and used as model immediately

Even if it was in 3D it wouldn't help much in Revit.  There are some workarounds like importing it into a family before loading into the project, but it isn't to the detail and usefulness if it was done in Revit to start with.
