Importing a CAD drawing

Hi. Sorry to be asking a dumb question. I am new to Revit. I trying to import my architects CAD drawing into Revit to develop the 3D model. I have created individual dwg files for each level (level 1 attached). I am using the link to CAD in level 1 view but it does not appear. Is it possible someone could point me in the right direction. Many thanks Tony

Insert --> Link CAD. Should work. Perhaps have a look at visibility graphic (VG) to show imported categories.

Usually it's linked but you can't see it because of wrong units or your file is far from center of the model.

while importing make sure that you choose the correct units.

after linking, zoom extents to check if it's linked in a far place.

check below photos.

Also check that the CAD is at ground level - if it has a Z offset, it could be above the view.  If the CAD is linked rather than imported (preferable) then you can confirm that it's in your project by looking at Manage Links on the Manage menu.  If it's there, it's more than likely units.

Hi. Thank you for everyone's quick repose. sorry again for such basic questions. I have found it now. Within AutoCAD had set the X & Y coordinates to be the centre of my floor plan. I guess I got this wrong. It also appears there are other objects in the floor plan outside the actual finished house level 1. I guess I need to find a way to clean up the CAD drawing. unless I can cut and paste the right part of the imported floor plan within Revit? Many thanks. Tony

FYI You can ofcourse clean up the file in autocad or you can control the dwg's layer visibility under visibility graphics or when selecting the dwg use query to delete layers ie. Just some pointers. 🙂

I recommend linking the CAD files into your Revit project instead of importing.  Some videos for you in the link below.

@Anonymous:  Is this right?  No wonder you can't see it in Revit.

Thank you everyone for your help and feedback. I changed the units in AutoCAD and it did not make a difference. i thinnk Revit must automatically adjust for it. I have the floor plans in Revit now. Thank you again.
