Imperial or Metric system

Hello Ladies and Gentleman,

 

I am curious if you have ever been in a situation where you are asked to do a job remotely (me; Dublin -Ireland: Architect - Atlanta USA)

I would started the job on the metric system ( but I have worked on the imperial system before)
What happened when they asked you to change the dimension to imperial dimension?

Had anyone come across this before?

Does the dimension get messy when it changed or what happened?

Try it and see but I don't think it's as simple addressing dimensions. You will need to replace any families with imperial versions. It might be easier to start over and use the correct content than it will be to track everything down and fix it.

I don't think it's going to be any problem. AFAIK Revit, no matter the country or setting, at its core always uses imperial units. The geometry doesn't change - a wall has a certain height, no matter if you call it 3 meters, 9ft10" or 16 bananas. Just try with one of your "old" models and see what happens.

If all your concerned about is simple overall geometry, that might be true, but I'm afraid there is more to consider.

I was partially wrong. Length is measured in Imperial units, everything else is metric:

 

Units | Revit | Autodesk Knowledge Network Revit 

 

If I understand the article correctly, calculations happen in the native Revit Unit. If you change the Units, all Revit does is display a converted/calculated value. The background process never changes.

I don't think it affected anything. I changed the units on the model. You just have to control how you want to round it off in the imperial units. Also, I need to think about height of things, Floor to floor is 2650mm whereas in imperial and USA,  it's 8'-0.....TIA

I think that is depend on if you are planning to do a schedule. You can swapped out the doors and windows with imperial families units. Not so much with furniture, fixtures etc (unnecessary stuff)

I don't understand your dilemma.  There is a big difference between planning a project in metric units and planning a project in imperial units. You don't just open a project, flip a switch to convert its units and then go merrily on with the planning and documentation.  

 

...whether the team is working remotely or on-site, everyone still needs to be working from the same script.
