How to Split face on the same wall?

Hello Ladies and Gents,

We have been trying to add wall tiles on same wall using split faces but we ended up losing the first split face when we created a 2nd split face on the same wall. Why is this happening? and Is there a workaround to this issue?

That is pretty much odd...it seems to function perfectly fine at my end and can split and re-split without loosing any.

Maybe I misunderstood something...see GIF below and do tell if it is something else you are after
