How to select font weight for text in Revit?

I'd like to use a particular TrueType font (Roboto) within my Revit project. I have installed it just fine and I can see, using Windows built-in font browser, that the font has many weights (light, regular, semibold, etc). However when I try to select this font in Revit I can only see one option in the font drop down - Roboto. There appears to be no way to select a particular weight of that font within Revit. Is there a way?

cheers,

Hi @Anonymous,

I think this is because windows 'merges' different fontstyles as one font.

For example go to windows\fonts directory. You'll see a difference between single style fonts and a font that has several styles (bold, extra bold etc).

Untested... but perhaps (fingerscross) Revit automaticly grabs the 'bold' style when checking 'bold'?

The font in question was Google's Roboto typeface. I tried many different variants of it with various degrees of success and reading about it it appears that there are issues with how a font is put together and how Windows interprets that information. Anyway, I ended up using a font manager called FontBase. The app installed the font that I needed in such a way that all its variants are accessible from within Revit.

Further, the set of fonts installed by FontBase is located in your home directory and the fonts are only accessible while the font manager app is running. However copying fonts from there to Windows default font location (C:\Windows\Fonts) makes the fonts available system-wide without the need for the font manager.

It's weird accepting my own post as a solution but this does solve the problem.

Just remember to embed any special fonts when you print to PDF or they may not display properly on other computers.
