It has been in Revit since ?????? around 2005-2006? Prior to Revit switching over naming scheme to release yr. Maybe Revit 8?

How do you get to that dialogue box?  Please define your solution so the rest of us can follow.

Thank you!  But the hatch is still not aligning to the element.  I'm trying to get the plywood fill pattern to display vertical.  It will only show as horizontal even if I draw an element and rotate it to the proper orientation.  Whats wrong?

@b-L4R5-n

I assume you are working with probably a filled region?

The hatch "align to element" option only works on modeled 3D elements (2D component families also will rotate the pattern but this is because its a family and not because of the 'align to element' option).

To get a drafting pattern to rotate in a filled region... well you cant. You need to have a separate PAT file and create a separate filled region pattern (and have 2 types). We for example have a plywood vertical and a plywood horizontal for filled region work specifically -- try to avoid this though since it'd probably be smarter to have a Detail Component family regardless.

Here is a vertical plywood pattern you can download if you want: https://pattycake.io/pat/00d0EdX0N7p

ok.  so I've downloaded a new vertical plywood and installed it.  How do I get this to apply to a Filled Region?  I've imported the .pat file from Manage>Add. Settings>Fill Regions, but its not in my Filled Region properties when I create a new Region.  And if I apply the fill to regions I've already created, the change is populated through ALL regions with that fill.  I need to display BOTH horizontal AND vertical plywood in the same detail view.  Why is showing a simple detail in Revit is so incredibly frustrating?  I could have drawn this detail 10 times by now in any other program.

Installed it = created a new fill pattern with the new PAT file loaded in?

To verify this: Within Revit....  go to... [MANAGE] > [ADDITIONAL SETTINGS] > [FILL PATTERNS]

You should see under "Pattern Type: Drafting" that there is a vertical plywood drafting pattern and a horizontal plywood drafting pattern. If you do not see your vertical PAT you downloaded, then create a new drafting pattern here and load it in.

Although you loaded the pattern into Revit, you still need to create a Filled Region that has this pattern applied to it.

The easiest way to do this is to draw a filled region in your view... click on the filled region to highlight it. With it selected, through the properties window, click [EDIT TYPE]. Then [DUPLICATE]. Now you created a new filled region that will not change all the others. Name this appropriately and under "FILL PATTERN" - change that to the new vertical plywood fill pattern you loaded in.

This is actually good because multiple filled regions can reference a single fill pattern (there are various reasons why you might want to do this). Another way to create the new filled region is under the project browser. If you go scroll down to FAMILIES > DETAIL ITEMS > FILLED REGIONS > [all filled regions live here]. This is a good spot to edit naming and keep your file clean.

- download the pat file to a folder in your computer

- in revit: Manage tab > Additional settings > Fill Patterns > New > Custom > name it, browse and choose the pat file, set scale and orientation if need be > OK to finish

- Annotate tab > Region > Filled region > Pick any type > Edit Type > Duplicate > Name it > Change Fill pattern to the none you just created above > OK to finish

Thank you!  I still wish there was an easier way... but this opened up a door for me.

I am having the same problem.  I imported the Revit 2019 supplied plywood detail component.  The pattern is set to align to element.  But when I draw the component vertically or at an angle, the pattern does not align.  It continues to run horizontally.

Apply your plywood hatch to a material and have it set to align with element. When you make walls, roofs, etc. make sure to apply the correct plywood material where needed. In sections and details, the modeled element will correctly orient your plywood hatch. Then use the "Cut Profile" tool under view, in the graphics section to manipulate the end condition of the plywood and terminate it where/how you need it.

That is amazing thank you for delivering the pattern, If by any chance you can provide more special patterns done by you it would be amazing,
Thank you again
