How to place steel stair over a topo surface

I am newbie to Autodesk software and need to create a BIM project involving placing steel stair,

looking for details steps to place steel stair over a hill side topo surface.

Hi,

Before you look at the specifics of your project- ie stairs and toposurfaces, you'll need to get (at least some) familiarity with the basic- ie Levels, Views, Navigation, etc.

And then there is the issue of the stairs- how complex are they?

In my opinion, if this is my job:

Firstly: I will sketch and imagine how the steel stair will be constructed on the site from the beginning to the end of the project.

Secondly: After I have all necessary informations about the construction processing of steel stair then i "ask" Revit something like that: How i can create a foundation for steel stair ? How can i create a steel colum ? How can i create a steel stair based on that conditions? ...

Thirdly: Try to search more and more tutorials on websites about steel stair....

Thx for your reply. I just need to place a revit family stair over a surface. No need details for time being. How can I do that? (say any 2 points over a 3D surface..) Thanks!

A stair doesn't care about the topo, only the base and the top. You take care of making the stair work with the topo. So, determine the base level and the top landing level then draw the stair on the site plan from the base, then go an elevation to adjust it to fit with the topo.

@Anonymous: I think I know where you're getting stuck.  Here's the concept: Don't worry about the Toposurface. Forget about it. Just draw your Stairs and then go to a Section Cut View (cut through the middle of the Stairs in Plan View), and move the Toposurface up or down into the best position relative to underside of the stairs.  You may need to repeat this several times, with several iterations of your stair landing heights, but you get there eventually. 

That's the simplest workflow I can think of.  Keep in mind also, that riser height and tread depth (rise and run) are governed by Building Codes, so there's not going to be a lot of wiggle room in stair's rise and run (e.g. its slope).
