how to move elements from a design option back to main model?

Hi guys,

I'm a newbie in the design options stuff. I know that you can move elements from design option to a different design option. But how can I bring back the elements inside an option back to the main model?

I don't need to have the elements in the design option anymore. I just need to move all the elements from Option to the Main Model. Cant figure out how?

Thank you!

Copy > Paste Aligned to Current View, if I'm understanding what you're trying to achieve correctly.

It sounds like you're prepared to abandoned the design option and if so then you can use the Make Primary and Accept Primary tools in the Design Options dialog. You make the winning design option the primary option with the Make Primary button and then you Accept Primary to tell Revit that option wins and the other lose. Revit will delete the other options and their elements and even views that are specifically assigned to show those options instead of <Automatic>

Hi! The same problem here.
I just want to move some rooms in one  from one option set back to main model.

But ctrl +x and paste in same place will change the names of all my rooms  😄

no go situation...

Also the tricky part is that you can change Worksets of selected objects via scrolldown menu in elements properties but not option sets 😄 ... you have to go trough another pallete and just one way there no way back 😄

manual labour will do the job... very effective indeed...

Cut and Paste Aligned should retain the room data of the original. You might end up with rooms in the same boundary but the name and number should remain intact (and any other parameter data you've entered). It's one way to "move" a room to another floor though I tend to delete and then place the room again with the room tool and selecting the room from Options Bar drop down menu.

If you look closely you'll still have an "unplaced" room associated with that Design Option after using Cut or Delete.

The problem with Cut and paste is that all annotations linked to those elements will be lost and you will have to re-annotate everything, which is time consuming. If you already submitted to the Planning Department or the Building Department with revisions, then you will have to re-create all the annotations and add revision clouds and tags as needed (time consuming = burning budget). It would be great if all related annotations keep the relationship with the elements moved to another Option.

Why don't you Cut/Paste the Dimensions along with the rest of the Elements?

...out of curiosity, are you using Dedicated Views?

I will try that to see if that works. I am using dedicated views, but I have the following problem in my hands:

  • We submitted Sets to the Planning Department. The planning department has to conduct a public hearing process that takes some time to schedule and do it.
  • Now the Fire Protection consultant redesigned the sprinkler system and they do not need a couple of riser rooms.
  • We want to keep the Planning Set as it is because re-submitting it will cause tremendous delays to the project. So, we decided to address the change for the CD set but keeping the current layout for the planning set.
  • To accomplish that, we created options for the riser rooms, and we are moving the geometry, which has caused us a headache because now we have to recreate all the annotations (including Keynotes, etc) to keep the Planning Set as it was submitted and create duplicated sheets with the option including those rooms removed.

It is a pain.

Just wanted to voice my distain for design options, although if it helps - I just accepted as primary and they were added back into the main model - no need for C&P

Paste aligned to same place works to move rooms from an option to main model. It keeps room number and name intact. Heads up, copy both the room and the tag and not just the room, otherwise you have to re-tag every room.

Unfortunately some properties are lost when manually copying from the Design Option into the Main Model: namely Workset (everything goes to the active workset) and Phasing information (everything becomes created in the active phase and never demolished). It would be nice if there was a button akin to “Add to Set” but that would transfer the elements back to the Main Model (while deleting it from the option it came from), without having to accept the whole Option Set. Or they could simply add that feature to the existing tool. When using the native “Add to Set” tool to copy stuff from the Main Model into Options, I don’t see that same loss of information.
