How to make the edge of the wall when creating parts tool

Hello everybody,
I have a problem, when i´m modeling an inner compound wall, sometimes i need to use parts to modify the height of both sides of that wall, but when i create the parts, the edge of the wall dissappears, i dont know if i´m modeling wrong, or there´s a tool i´m not seeing or if simply you can do that, i need to do this for render and  quantifying materials for construction.
Thanks in advantage for any helpful answer.

If it is only the inner and outer layer heights you want to change (for purposes of detailing and quantities) you can Instead of parts, use unlocked layer. Edit the walls structure and in section preview modify layers and unlock

I tryed, but i need to modify both sides of the outter layers, and when i try to unlock both appears an error saying: "the extension layers at the top of the wall must be adjacent"

A trick would be to unlock the inner adjacent layers and then pull 'em up or down.

You technically need to unlock one side either inner or outer(just the layer you want to adjust layer).  The layer on the other side you get it with Join Geometry

it works thanks, but for the edge of the wall i needed to split the face and paint, that worked for the quantities and kinda the render and presentation
