The short answer is - very painfully.

Your best option would be to import into a Revit family of the correct category. In the Family Editor -

Insert>>Import CAD

Export your 3DS geometry to a SAT or DXF first.

Since 3DS geometry will come in a one single object, it would be a good idea for you to split it up into parts - for instance, for a chair have one file with the legs, another with the set, the third with the back, and import them into separate Revit families that can then be nested into one single chair family. It will also make it easier to assign material parameters.

Please remember - what you will get at the end of this process will be 'dumb' geometry. You will not be able to apply dimensional parameters, types, etc to the family.

Final note - the only situation where modeling in 3DS Max would score over modeling in Revit would be in the case of complex geometry which curves in three or more directions. As far as possible - modeling in Revit would allow you to control the geometry using parameters.

Yes. Split the object up into separate files (if possible / needed). Export to DXF. Import into Revit family. Nest all parts into another Revit family. You should be fine.
