How to get "Sub family" to carry over with family

So im making a parametric balcony family, and im looking to set it up so i have a host family with the varying balcony sizes included in the sub family. can anyone talk me thorugh this?

Sure, there are many people here that can help you out.

are you referring to making Family Types? if you have a parametric family you can set up family types in that family to represent different visibility and dimensional settings. i.e. a door family can have multiple types for the different size doors it can represent.

• open the Family
• select Family Types (Upper Left)
• select New Type and name it accordingly
• set your dimensions as needed
• select Apply
• repeat...

the next time you load the family you will have the different types to select from.

Or do you want to use some nested families? Perhaps elaborate on the question and possibly add some images and/or the family itself (zip)...
