There is a beam above the run, so the actual usable width is reduced.

How can I create the stair (with only one stair element?) so that it can still automatically check if the width is sufficient?

open Edit Type of Stair and change the Minimum Run Width:

The stair tool cannot detect the beam above. That’s part of clash detection

The stair tool can only detect its own width vs minimum width defined in its type properties. Considering the fact that you can see the beam and know the clear distance, create a new stair type and give it a new minimum.

if the beams are not there at the time you are modeling the stairs, you will need to revisit and re-adjust

But clash detection won't tell me that, either. Since the beam just above the stair, not having a intersect.

Though I've write api tool to detect the beam, I still want some way to show the remain width automatically.
Or maybe I just need a manual method to show the remain width on the instance, not just give it a dimension tag.

I tried stair carriage once, but it can't be set as different carriage for the stair runs and landings.

When you clash detect, you wont do that against the stair itself but the clear Shaft or Stairwell so to say. If these havent been used to model the stair shafts or any shaft (mechanical/ventilations/...etc) then you would need to use a custom modeled family similar to those nested into Mechanical equipments

Thanks, it's useful when checking Mep spaces, but not for my stair.

I need to check each runs and landings having enough height for people walk through, so it's not just a space looks like a column.

And the space should detect not just other type of elements, the stair run above it should be detected, too.
