How to cut a wall opening in glass partition?

I'm clearly doing this wrong so I really need help on what is the right way to go about cutting an opening into the glass. I know how to replace this with a door. I tried to replace it with a door opening but it didn't work. So I tried deleting the panel next. Still no luck. I need help.
