How to create Break lines and control visibility of elements in different Levels

Hey guys,

So I have a revit speciality equipment family (escalator) that I wanna add a break line to and control visibility on one level to another, like how the stair tool is set up. (if this is possible of this family category).

And I have a break line .rfa.

I´ve tried to change the subcategory of some of the elements in the escalator family, but the the whole model just crashes cos the elements are set up in a parametric array.

Then I tried nesting a mask to the escalator family where a change in level supposedly breaks it, and then inserted into my project.

The only problem is, the mask is seen on all levels where the escalator is visible and no other elements placed beneath are visible.

If I had better knowledge of revit, would I go about this 😄

I´ve attached the families here.

Thanks

Perhaps change the family category to Generic Model instead of Specialty Equipment would suffice.

Thanks for the suggestion @ToanDN

I´ve done that now, and the escalator is cut at the change of level.

Though I´d like to see the proyected part in <overhead> lines similar to the stair graphic representation in the image below so the drawing is consistent.

Linework will win the day. Add in the break line, use the Linework tool to convert lines to hidden, invisible, whatever you need to see and not to see.

To be honest I would add a breakline detail component (it comes with a masking region) to cut the escalator and call it a day.

To build it into the family needs a nested family to show different details at cut vs above.

Hi ToanDN,

I hope you can shed some light on this. I can't seem to make this work. Thanks.

You should be able to find the Break Line in the Imperial Library, under Detail Components>>General.

Thank you for this idea. Only problem I'm facing is the break line shows up in all views, even when family is cut and in top view also. The visibility parameter of the family if unchecked, doesn't show the breakline in all floor plan views. Also in the Visibility Graphics override "show only when cut" parameter is greyed out (this might have solved the problem, but why is the option not available?) @Sahay_R
