How to control architectural column material details?

Each of the views below is unsatisfactory.  In the first, the column material merges with the brick wall.  In the second, the GWB returns on the end instead of stopping where the brick wall is.  No matter what I do, the result doesn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks Toan.  It may take a while for me to look at that file. I am still using Windows 7 on my main work computer and can't open that file.
