Finish layers will be architectural, not structural....so just add a wall around the column with the proper material.

If its for scheduling, i wouldn't add a 3d model layer around it, but instead create a shared parameter For the input finish.

Yo can create architectural colums arround structural colums, they get wrapped. But I don't think it would work on schedules.

Structural material should let you to add non structural layers for wrapping (it's no easy to wrap a cincrete beam on Revit not painting all their faces... Not always they are hidden by ceilling, and you have wrapping it with finish layers). Also, placing a architectural colums only for wrapping structurals ones is not a efficient way.

One option that you should try it to customize the column family to add the wrapping layer. If you want the layer in the model.
