How do you set the rotate default to Center?

Revit 2026 has made a change to the rotation feature... you now have to place the rotate point before rotating...

you can change it to center but the next time you rotate an object it goes back...

is there a way to set this to default like it has been in previous versions?

You always had to specify the point of rotation by either pointing or dragging. Apparently, this has changed, saving you a couple of clicks...

In this other thread on the same topic, @Basam.Yousif seems to have found a workaround with keyboard shortcuts

No you cant re-set default to center. I believe that this is one of the enhancements they introduce based on users statistics. Happens when you check that share box lol

I think I have never used the center as a rotation origin and had to always "Place" it. In the future they will most likely make it smarter that it remembers last choice made by user

I can see where either placing the center, or allowing it to be "the center" is helpful, but seriously? Why not make it sticky, like the mirror command and some others?  Something else that would be SUPER helpful is if Revit gave a keystroke to change options like this.  It's silly to track your mouse all the way across the screen and back to tick a setting every time.

that’s one of the enhancements in the upcoming updates. Making it remember last choice made by user similar to other tools. It might have been the original idea but they have missed it in the first release

If you change the setting once, to "center" it will use that in subsequent uses of "rotate." Like the mirror tool, if you select "copy" it'll remember that for the next time.

Also, on the shotcut assignment screen (KS), there are "Place center of rotation" and "Center of rotation on center of selection set" options (I don't recall the latter existing before RVT2026).

The former allows you to launch the rotation tool with the "point selection" option already active, regardless of the last time you used rotate.

Both, once the rotate tool is activated, allow you to switch between both modes (Selection or Center).

If you put them in nearby shortcuts, it makes for a lightning-fast workflow. I have them in R3 and R4.

Now that I think about it, it would be nice if the second one also activated the rotate tool, you would save 1 shortcut.
