How do you edit symbol?

Not applicable

My revit background is a CAD file(dwg file) for my site background.

When I clicked on my CAD background, in the "Properties" window, it says its family is an "Import Symbol."

I'm assuming that somehow I placed my CAD background as a "symbol" in my revit file.

I need to edit this dwg file for my site background but I don't know how. Can anyone please teach me how to edit my Symbol in CAD format?

When I clicked on the file, it only gives me the option to explode and not edit.

I tried to explode but it's such a big file. I don't want to explode this.

I also went to Insert > Manage Links.... but did not see this dwg file in the window.

Please help~ Thank you!

You can't edit a DWG in Revit. You need to open the DWG in AutoCAD to make changes to it and then reload it into Revit.

...can you tell me what you want to edit in the DWG?  Maybe it's not necessary.  Maybe what you want to do can be accomplished through VGOs.

Thank you so much for that idea!

I changed the linework and I was able to do what I wanted!

Thank you again!

do you know where I can manage my symbols though?

I have no idea how I came to this point. Having CAD file as my symbol.

I don't know where my CAD file is located in my computer as well. I wish I could see the link path.

Manage it how? You can access the CAD layers through VGOs/Object Styles. Look under Imported Categories Tab.

You have the file inserted into the model, not linked. You need to delete the import and link the file instead, if you can find it.

Alternatively, you could try isolating the import in a view and exporting it to a KNOWN location and them do the steps above.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.
