How do you delete when using Design Options

I'm playing around trying to learn about the Design Options feature of Revit and I cannot see a way of deleting a wall.

At the moment I have a square 'box' of four walls:

Design option 1 is an extension on the side:

How do I remove the shaded area for option 1:

You may want to add a door for example but I get an error saying that you cannot add a design option that would be hosted in the main model.  So, I thought of a wall opening (not ideal if you want a door but for the sake of experimentation!!) but the cutout existed in both the main model and design option 1 and any other additional design options which are added.

I would have thought this would be a 'normal' situation when you have an existing building and want to provide a client with modification options...

What is the normal procedure in these circumstances?

Looks like you have to do a couple of Options. One with that wall and the other without. That wall is demolished if the one Design Option is accepted, so include it in both DOs and demolish it in one of the two.    

One other thing: Hosted Elements, such as Doors, need to have their Host Wall put into the DO as well.  In those cases, use the Split Element tool to split the Wall at the Door.  Then you can include the DO Door along with the portion of Wall it is hosted to.  Again though, you'll need another DO that has only that portion of Wall (without Door) should no Door Option be chosen.

Everything in a Design Option must be independent from anything outside of the Design Option.  With that in mind it will be clear to you that the existing wall to be demolished must be in one Option, and the same wall to remain must be in another Option.  That piece of wall must not be in the Main Model.
