Hosted elements limited functionality...

Hi all,

We are struggling with hosted elements behaving differently from regular elements.

Two examples:

1. Gutters have a Comment parameter, but multi-category Tags reading the Comment parameter do not pick up gutters.

2. Material Take off schedules do not pick up mullions materials...

I bet there are many more examples.

This anomalies make working with Revit very time consuming.

Any news on when hosted elements will be standardized?

1. Can you use a Keynote ( with text) on the gutters to show the description( not sure exactly what you need the tag to read?)

2. Material take-off is doing just that--taking off / quantifying Materials, so "Mullions" would not be picked up, but Aluminum, or a Paint Finish would be.

3. If you need Mullion quantities, a Multi-Category Schedule can be used.

Create Parts from hosted elements and tag them.

Yes, keynoting is more universal, and powerful (element, material, user), but the dependence on an exterior TXT file is cumbersome. Even worse on the cloud.

Also, there is no instance commenting with Keynotes.

I would use keynoting all the time, for CSI keynote, and custom notes alike, but to be able to simply write the annotation on the spot becomes very valuable, hence, we developed multi-cat tags that read the Comment and Type Comment parameters, very flexible because the values are saved within the project, and anyone can edit at will, without having to edit and reaload the TXT.

Using Comment parameters also need separate materials Tag to read material Comment parameter, but it's not a big deal.

The real issue is, Multi-Cat tags do not read as many elements as keynotes do and this this should be fixed.

Turning everything into Parts is an interesting option which I will look into.

Back to the main issue: the material take off schedule does not pick up the material of mullion elements.  I have louvers built as mullions, which have a special perforated metal material, and the material does not show in the materials take off schedule. This is bad.
