virtual memory high usage.png

My system requirements are good but still this error occurs. I'm using the REVIT 2017 student version. Is that the reason for this issue?

The file size has become 1.37 GB now. I need to continue my work but its too slow too run. please suggest any solution for this issue.

Reasons why your current session is using more memory than the computer efficiently support.

1. Your project file has too large

2. Your project file has too many links. (RVT/CAD/RASTER IMAGE/POINT CLOUD and such)

3. You opened 2 or more revit files in a separate revit windows

4. Your project has a lot of small items or detailed items

suggestion:

If you're working on a large scale project. You have to separate the model into a different files (zone by zone / per level / per discipline / per trades)

for you to avoid this kind of problems in the near future.

To work smoothly, you need about 8-16 times the size of your project file as free space on your HD.

So in your case: 1.37 x 8 = +-11 GB of free space needed.

Additionally, since Revit only uses 1 core of your CPU, you need a powerfull CPU as well.

If you're working with Worksets, close unused Worksets, this also releases memory.

Closing and restarting Revit throughout the day also helps.

To lower the files size:

  • remove unused views (copies, workign sections,...)
  • purge the model, do this at least twice.
  • Save as under a new name. When you "save as" Revit will compact the file, saving you several MB's.

What kind of project are you working on?

Did you use a lot of Model-In-Place components? Are there many groups? Did you use a lot of (detail) linework?

Hi @Anonymous

I see that you are visiting as a new member! Welcome to the Autodesk Community!Smiley Happy

Its awesome to note that you have reduced your virtual memory and solved the issue by copying only the necessary components to a new revit model.

It is possible that other applications use your RAM. I recommend you look HERE for more information on Revit and virtual memory.

To minimize possible instability in Revit when its uses operating system memory, I recommend the following:

  • Restart Revit regularly. (try to restart your machine during lunch break and give Revit a break tooSmiley Happy)

If you receive a message that the current session's memory usage is approaching the operating system limit, save your work as soon as possible and restart Revit.

If you are using a workshared environment, save your local file, restart Revit, and then synchronize with central.

  • Reduce the number of loaded DWG and RVT links.
  • Purge unused objects.
  • Limit the number of views open. If you have multiple views open, you can quickly close all hidden views by selecting View tabWindows panel (Close Hidden).
  • Limit the number of worksets that you open when using a workshared file. In the Open dialog, from the Open drop-down list, select Specify, which lets you select the worksets to close before opening the local file.
  • Use hardware acceleration when possible.
  • Use optimized view navigation to improve performance when navigating views.
Note: In some cases, antivirus software solutions can lock files or slow data transfer, giving the appearance of memory limitations.

Regarding large Revit model projects and high RAM usage, are you able to elaborate anymore on you statement"
