Hiding elements in group

I was wondering if it is possible to hide an element in a group in a way that the element disappears from all instances of the group. Let's say I have a floor plan with ten identical apartments, so the interior is grouped and placed in all ten and there is one closet I want to hide in all of them. I don't want to delete it, because I need to see it in other views. Hiding casework in graphic override is also no solution, because there is other casework I want to keep. Any suggestions?

If the family is editable (i.e. not a system family) you can make a new Subcategory for it in the family editor. Then in Visibility/Graphics you can hide that Subcategory in each view where you don't want to see the family.

I'd use a Selection Set into the Group so to control the Visibility. 

Load Selection Set and Hide . It looks that it works into the Group too.

I'm not sure I understand your suggestion. When I make a Selection Set and then group the items, only the items in the first group are selected:

Conversely, when I make a Group and then make a Selection Set of items within that Group, Revit creates multiple Selection Sets by the same name with increasing numbers as suffixes on the names:

How did you do this to make one selection set select every group's items?

Personally, I'd just create different, uniquely-named groups and just swap out one for another.

There will be more instances of the same Group with Selection Set Filters applied while in Edit Group mode.

You can, also make several groups instead of one , but it will be more difficult to swap  them when you change your mind..

Hi,

In a case you describe I usually use a Group-dependent instance parameter like the Revit's comments value.

Fill a value like "HideIn2D", while in group edit mode.

Then in all views needed (preferably by ViewTemplate) use a Filter that filters on the category and the value.

Apply the filter to the view and turn visible off.
