Please could someone help me identify what these parts are called and how i could use them in revit i.e. what family they are a part of and how to apply them to my model.

below are two images that will show you what it is that i am trying to identify.

The part that i am trying to indentify is the black metal supports or grips at the top of image at the ends of the beams, suspending them from the beam above. And also the type of beam that they are suspended from

The metal parts I would call them beam hangers or similar.

The beams could be based on a structural framing family.

How you want to go about the creation of the hangers will depend on what you will need for your project.

You could consider to create/modify a structural framing family and include/model the hanger in there.

Or Revit has a sub-category of structural connections which might be sutiable for the hangers. You could start of with a Generic model and then change it to the structural connections category. The generic model face based might be a good contender.

From the picture it appears that these beam hangers are not standard items. You probably will not find a Revit family of this type beam hangers on the internet. This means you probably have to create your own beam hanger family. You could start of with a generic model family template or generic model face based family template. In their you will have to model your beam hanger and add the parameters as needed ad set the catefory. After that you can load your beam hanger family in your project like other loadable families.

Of course above will require that you are familiar with creating your own families in the family editor. Not sure how experienced you are, how to do that will take some study effort.

For this you could get some training (books, video courses, classes) or look on the internet. A good starting point would be the Autodesk Revit Families Guide which can be found on THIS Autodesk website.

Learning to create your own families is worth the effort. The more you work with Revit the more you will notice that the existing families are most of the time never exactly as you need/want them to be. In those cases you want to modify an existing family or create your own. So try to get familiar with creating your own families.

They work like other loadbale families. You first load the minto your project. Then from the family browser you place them in your model.

How they have to be placed in the project depends on the particular family (Hosted, Non-hosted). If they are non hosted you should be able to put them on alle locations  If they are hosted you will have to check what type of host they require (e.g. face, wall, ceiling, floor) and place them on the relevant object.

For example in the screenshot I loaded a structural connection family from the Revit library (Hanger with Rectangular Flange.rfa). This family example is face based and have placed them on a face of a wall. From the interactive ribbon it is already clear that it is a face hosted family.
