Global Parameters in Model Groups

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi all, I have a model group with a global parameter that controls the height between SSL-SSL upper floor.

This parameter controlling height changes depending on the level the model group is placed.

I would like to use one model group but change the parameter for each case, how can I manage global parameters in model groups once they have been loaded in a model?

Help more than appreciated.

You mean you want Group Instances to change?  That would defeat the whole purpose of Groups.   Groups are copies.

Make a family so you can control the height. Use a two-level family template for automatic level-to-level height control.

I already created a model group of the apartment.

Could we do this with the model group?

see attached. Why we couldn't add a type parameter here?

No, you cannot.  Model Groups are static.  You could try an in-place family to add a height control instance parameter.  Since no one has mentioned it, you cannot use a Global parameter to control different heights.  You must have one global parameter for each height.

Instance Global Parameters of of the following types can vary between instances of Groups:

  • Text
  • Area
  • Volume
  • Currency
  • Mass Density
  • URL
  • Material
  • <Family Type>

Length Parameter type cannot change between instances of Groups.
