Generic Model two level instance grips

Hello,

Is there a way of getting instance grips showing on a Generic Model Two Level family the same way as in Walls?

I mean, being able to have positive and negative Top and Base offsets?

Yes, 

You will have to create top and bottom reference plans in the family. (1 -2)
Link your geometry to these planes. (3 - 4)
Create a dimension parameter as an instance, linked to these plans, (5)
Then align and lock the lower reference plane with the Reference level and load this family into your project. (6)

It will work on elevation views and sections, but will not apear on 3d view.

I was looking into setting it so that both constraints could use positive AND negative offset values.

If I try to drag the upper RefPlane above the Top Level it will break (as it will be a negative dimension that Revit cannot cope with) and similarly to the lower RefPlane and Base Level, respectively.

Does this make sense?

It would not be possible to use negative values, as the dimension parameters always look positive.

But following the same reasoning that I explained before, and including one more reference plane and another dimension parameter under the reference level, it is possible to arrive at a result close to the expected one.

Look at the family I used as an example.

In short, no. It is not possible, or at least I don't know of any way, to control negative values with instance grips since the nescessary dimensions always are positive values to some reference plane ie.

What you can do, is nest a work-plane based generice family and use it's offset parameter to control the geometry in the family, however not with instance grips as mentioned. This does allow for negative values, but you will have double offset parameters in the family which might be confusing tbh. Can't really think of a situation where you might want to set the bottom offset above your top plane though... (?)
