Free Form Element portion of a chair family dissappears in a view template

I am using a view template that I purchased, and the cushion area of a chair family dissappears when applying the template

Inside the family, the element is a Free Form Element,

What is the way to fix it and make it show and what might cause this?

I found a fix, if I set the View Template detail level to Medium, the Free Form Element appears but when I check the fanily, the visibility is set for all detail levels. If I uncheck one of the Levels, it will show in the others 2 but if I check all of them it does not show in Medium.

Your terminology confused me a little 🙂. You purchased a RFA (Revit Family), not a RFT (Revit Family Template), correct? A Template is what is used to make a family. Family Templates are often empty with the exception of preset settings.  That said 😊... Is the "freeform component" a nested family (family in a family)? if so, there could be settings in the nested family causing this to happen too.

@hmunsell Thanks for reply!  I purchased a View Template, not a family template.  The chair family I have it from somewhere else and the cushion part of the chair is a Free Form Element.

There is something strange happening with the visibility of the Free Form Element inside the family because if check the visibility for all levels of details, it will not actually show on the Fine level.  So it somehow does not work well if all detail levels are set to show.

There are not many settings for the Free Form Element, is not even nested. its just there on the first level with the other parts.

So I fixed it by unchecking Medium level, and now it does show on Fine level. Its strange but thats how it does.

I can`t upload the View Template but I have tested the family in a new project and it behaves normally so it must be something with the View Template, but I am ok with the solution I found.

Check the V/G Overrides Import setting for your view template. make sure that it it ticked on and that "Imports in Families" is also ticked.
