topographic surface

Good morning,
my name is Gaia, I am a graduate student at the University of Naples Federico II.
I write here because I'm writing my experimental thesis, and I'm modeling a project on Revit, but I need to ask you for information on this program as I couldn't find information on the user manual. I would need to know if it is possible to replace the topographic surface (inserted at the beginning of the project) with a new one, for example after a landslide.
If it is possible, do all elements, which have been adapted to the first surface, also automatically readjust to the second surface? Or should I redo the whole project from scratch?

it depends.... is it an actual Revit Surface or is it just a link.

  • if the surface was loaded as a linked element, then yes you can reload the link with the updated information and it should update.
  • if the surface was made from a linked content (i.e. a Civil3D topo was used and the surface was made by using Create from Import), if that original file is altered, I think the Revit Surface would need to be remade.
    • In my office once we get the topo from Civil, it is usually pretty set and doesn't change. so I haven't needed to test that :-).

As far as the elements in the model. If the element are hosted to the Surface (vs a Level) in the Revit Model, then they should move when the surface is updated. Although, depending on how drastic the change, when I have done that the results are often not desirable. if there hosted to a Level, or other Work Plane, they will stay stationary.

Sounds like maybe you need to use a graded region. With that you can have an Existing topography and then a new topography. Both are in the same file and in the same position. You are just manipulating the contours of each one independently. The cut/fill volumes between the two are calculated.
