Hello Revit Community ![]()
In our projects we use a opening family for floors that works great with system families.
Unfortunately it is also used for in place elements, which leads to the following result in a section view:
While the openings and symbols look good in a planview, we see that this family obviousely is not working properly for in-place floors. The family can not get the thickness from the in-place floor as it is not a parameter of the in-place element. So the symbols dont have the right thickness. I have to admit that i don´t understand why they are also placed under the floor instead of inside it.
So i think that it is not possible to build an opening family that will work properly with system and in-place families?! So I want to build a opening family that will only be used for in-place elements.
My question to this topic is:
Is it possible to build a opening family with a symbol that will have the same hight (thicknes) as the in-place element it is placed in? Or will i have to control the symbol size manually with a parameter? This wont be too bad because i only have to make some types for a few different thicknesses. Just wanted to know the pissibilies i have.
Would really appreciate any informations on opening families for in-place elements ![]()
I will also have to build a family for slanted in-place walls, that will get more complicated...
Kind Regards!
Gerhard
If you let me, I'm gonna invert the question: why would you model in-place floors? Seems a little complicated workaround for so many things, i.g. just the issue you have right now... Probaly will be easier to fix the issue wich make you model floors as in-place families.
Hello @jvpantin2,
thanks for your reply!
The department I work for is designing pretty large Hydropower plants only. We use in-place families for everything! I don´t know if there are reasons why we also use them for pretty simple floors. But I´m sure I can not change all floors in ongoing projects and I know people that have their workflow don´t like to change it.
Creating an opening family for in place floors, showing how good/bad works will help me when adressing this problem and talking about solutions for the future. ![]()
