Foreground Fill Pattern Not Showing on Floors

The new features in Revit 2019 to allow a double fill pattern (Background and Foreground) doesn't seem to work for floor plates in plan views. It displays properly for roofs and walls but not for floor plates.  Seems like a bug since the graphics display correctly in 3d views properly.

-Perhaps something in you project is not right?

-Try creating a new Project. Create a new Floor, apply the new double-fill pattern / material to the floor.

-Does it work as expected?

Interesting. It looks like the issue is with our upgraded Project Template. I started a new project with the stock Revit Imperial template and the fill pattern worked as expected. I tried it again with our project template and the problem persists. Seems there's an incompatibility with old / upgraded project templates. I suppose the best practice will be to migrate our project standards to a new 2019 template rather then upgrading. Would you agree?

Yes--I would bet that pre-Revit 2019 projects / template files will not work when "converted" to 2019 as the new Material/Pattern functions most likely do not "upgrade".

I have a similar issue. Any surface fill pattern applied to the floor seems to be working, but at the same time it covers the walls in the floor plan.

floor(projection) pattern goes over the wall(section) cut patternThe project was indeed upgraded from 2018. The problem does not exists neither when I try to recreate the situation in a new project in 2019 version nor in a new project that is upgraded from 2018 to 2019.

Any idea how to solve it without redrawing the whole project?

I've already tried: auditing, restarting, duplicating views, zooming in-and-out, cutting&pasting. The issue is being solved only for a while, and then the problem is back.

Win10, Nvidia Quadro M1000M+Intel HD Graphics 530, drivers up to date.

I've been using the software already for 5 years and I consider myself quite an advanced user. Sorry to say that but if I would design buildings the way Revit is programmed, they would collapse each month. Please, it is a serious matter - in the end it is not a freeware app.

-Try turning off Floor Surface Pattern in VG, then turn back on.

-Apply a different pattern to the floor. Any luck?

Definitely seems like an upgrade problem. Have you tried opening a 2019 template and 'Transfer Project Standards' the Fill Patterns to your upgraded model using overwrite?

I tried to open a 2016 test file in 2019 and the double surface patterns display correctly.  Can you save a copy your model with just a floor and a few walls and upload it?

This is the bug of Revit 2019 upgrade. Autodesk, please release service pack or fix to hatch double pattern. 3dsmax team seems work faster than Revit team.

There are a number of ways the patterns can be hidden and a number of ways to reveal them. Given there are none shown at all in the plan view I would assume that they have been hidden by category. You can unhide them by right clicking on a floor, select Override Graphics in View >By Category >Surface Patterns >Visible.

Alternatively you can check the visibility/graphics overrides by typing VV or VG (or click the visibility/graphics command in the view menu on the ribbon) while in the plan view in question. There you will see options for the display of Projection/Surface or Cut properties for items in that view. Under Model Categories go to the floors section and it is likely that under Projection/Surface that the floor Patterns have been selected to be hidden. If so click the word Hidden, click Override and make sure that Visible is checked.

Otherwise a few of the other ways they could be hidden are by filters (another tab on the Visibility/Graphics Overrides dialogue) or hidden individually by selection (right click on the floor you wish to see the pattern on, select Override Graphics in View >By Element >Surface Patterns >Visible).

@Anonymous Couldn't replicate that. I would check phase filter override settings first I guess, then view filters... but otherwise it would be easier if you share your view (template) settings, sharing the file ie. (object styles/VG/filters/phase settings included etc.)

i had this issue in revit 2025. thanks
