Set Default Reference Plane

In a project, is it possible to set the default reference plane subcategory back to 'None' after creating a subcategory?  I prefer my default subcategory to be 'None' when invoking the draw reference plane command.  However, as soon as I create a subcategory, Revit wants to use that subcategory when drawing a reference plane.

Thanks much.

The last used is the "default" for the next drawn.

Except for 'None' it looks like.  I am sure I can work around it by creating a 'Generic' subcat or something, but preference is to keep it streamlined as possible.

So, are you saying that it is not defaulting to "None" after placing a Ref. Plane set to "None"?  Just tested and it does for me.

Correct.  Sequence of test below.  Draw 'None'.  Esc Esc. Draw RP with subcat.  Esc Esc.  Draw RP with None.  Esc Esc.  Start RP, it defaults to subcat.  Happens on both of my installs.

okay, now I misunderstood. Here's my testing. Hope it helps.

In 2020 Project:

1. Pick RP. Subcat shows "None". Draw RP.

2. Esc, Ecs

3. Pick RP. Change Subcat to "A". Draw RP.

4. Esc, Esc.

5. Pick RP. Subcat shows "None". Draw RP.

Repeat 1-5. Same results. Conclusion: "None" is default when starting anew.

Im in 2019.  Same process, different results.  Wonder if it is something subtle they adjusted between releases.  I will just deal with it for the moment.  Thanks for the assist.

Secondary Conclusion: We're not getting the same results, making me wonder if there is a setting for the "default"?  Pretty much exactly what you are asking.  Smiley Wink

What RTE are you using?

I believe it was based on the Imperial Residential Default, originally.

What happens if you create an entirely new subcategory in the project and try it?  Or were you doing that originally?  I *think* I recall a couple of weeks ago running across setting the default reference plane in a template.  Maybe they are handled differently between template and project.  It wouldn’t make sense to me if they were, but you never know.

Hmm.  I created an additional category, drew a plane with the new category, esc esc, started the command again and it reverted back to the first category I created.  Funky.

If you change the subcategory under properties (as per first image circled in blue) rather than in the modify tab (second image circled in red) when creating a new reference plane it should make that subcategory the new default.
